A Unique Feature That Gives Our Clients A Special Edge
From the time our firm was founded, we have distinguished ourselves from peers in the legal community. While many firms focus their work exclusively on the plaintiff or defense side of lawsuits, our founding partners have represented a diverse clientele on both sides of the docket. For the past 30+ years, this experience has given us insight into the strategic thinking that guides both sides in a lawsuit. This insight, paired with our adept skill in litigation has given our clients an edge. We are proud to design legal strategies that help our clients reclaim stability and overcome legal disputes with confidence.
Finding The Right And Just Answer For Our Clients
Regardless of the practice area where our expertise may be called upon, we focus upon prioritizing the needs and objectives of our clients and providing personal service second to none in achieving those goals. Our dual-sided understanding and experience in plaintiff and defense work reflects our unwavering commitment to fighting the good fight. Regardless of your legal dispute, we can help.
We shun labels, and we focus on results. Perhaps that explains why — time and time again — our clients reach us through referrals from our legal peers and adversaries. We take great pride in that versatility and in the accomplishments that have earned us a strong, enduring record of success.
Our representation for individual plaintiffs and families includes helping those whose health and lives have been damaged by the negligence of others. We also protect the rights of clients victimized by unscrupulous insurance companies, financial advisors, or securities or brokerage firms, as well as clients who have been injured while on the premises of others.
Our representation for individual and business defense matters includes protecting the rights of our community's finest hospitals, nurses, and physicians facing medical malpractice litigation. Our attorneys combine over 90 years of experience in the defense of health care lawsuits, and have handled hundreds of cases in the fields of obstetrics, surgery, cardiology, radiology, emergency medicine, and all aspects and specialties of nursing and physician care. Our attorneys also protect the rights of businesses in contract disputes, and other complex commercial litigation matters.
Sensible and Competitive Fee Structures
We understand that every client and case has a specialized set of concerns, which is why we represent some clients on a contingent fee basis, others on an hourly fee basis, and still others utilizing a combination of both. Our clients find our rates to be highly competitive when compared with similarly-experienced litigation specialists working for the larger, full-service firms in Houston and throughout Texas.
Our History: A Lifetime Of Experience
The partnership of Bobby Lapin and John C. Landa, Jr., precedes their founding of Lapin & Landa and, in a true sense, dates back to the summer of 1960. From the time they were both born in Houston that summer to parents who were already close friends, Bobby and John have been closest of lifelong friends and partners in many endeavors, including athletic competitions and debate during high school, moot court and mock trial tournaments during law school, and community involvement ever since. They were groomsmen in each other's weddings and their own families have shared countless occasions, milestones and challenges together. After graduating together from high school in Houston, Bobby headed west, where he attended Stanford University, graduating With Distinction with a degree in English Literature in 1982. John headed east to Duke University, from which he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Accounting and Economics in 1982. The two then reunited at University of Texas School of Law, from which both graduated With Honors in 1985. Since graduating from law school, they have practiced trial law together every day for the past 33 years. In December of 1991, Bobby and John founded a small Downtown Houston litigation boutique with a simple guiding professional goal: to accept only a small volume of serious cases and to give each client, and each case, unique personal care and attention. Twenty-nine years later, Lapin & Landa, LLP, continues to follow and thrive with the same model. Cases we accept are not delegated to inexperienced associates.
Our Practice: A Dedication To Excellence
Bobby's practice concentrates predominantly on representing individual and corporate plaintiffs in personal injury, business and employment litigation, while John has spent his career predominantly representing institutions and professionals who are named as defendants in medical malpractice and commercial lawsuits. Their many years of experience in such a practice offers them unique insight into the strategy of "how the other side thinks" that is rarely available or appreciated in a firm that limits its trial practice to one side of the docket.
Reputable, Respected And Recognized Leaders
In 1990 and 1991, Bobby and John were both Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law and Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Year after year, they have been nominated and honored by their peers as Texas Monthly Magazine "Super Lawyers". In 2003, Lucille Reiter King, formerly a Member of Dunn, Kacal, Adams, Pappas & Law, joined Lapin & Landa. Lucille, a 1994 graduate of The University of Houston School of Law and 1991 honors graduate of Texas A&M University, has practiced in the area of health care defense for over 15 years. Lucille, a child of rural Texas and the daughter of a renowned judge, has established her own superb reputation by combining her intelligence, talent, dedication and experience with her exceptional writing, advocacy and analytical skills. Julie Anderson, a magna cum laude graduate of Vanderbilt University, practiced and taught nursing in Texas for 13 years before earning her law degree in 1989 from the University of Houston. Julie's primary area of practice is now and has always been the representation of hospitals and other health care providers. Her primary focus is in the areas of medical staff peer review matters and the defense of medical malpractice litigation. Julie brings to the firm a valuable first-hand appreciation and understanding of nursing, medical and legal issues at the heart of medical staff peer review and the defense of malpractice claims. Rachael Levy is a native Houstonian who spent the first ten years of her legal career in Chicago, focusing on health care litigation. She is a graduate of The University of Michigan at Ann Arbor (2004), and Chicago-Kent College of Law (2007), and is licensed in Illinois and Texas.
A Record Of Community Involvement
In addition to our law practice, we at Lapin & Landa, LLP, have always believed in giving back to the community which has been so supportive of us. Toward that end, we are proud to have established three nursing education scholarships in the Houston area, providing over $40,000 in scholarships to hospital employees attending local community colleges so as to promote educational opportunities and allow the recipients to advance their careers by becoming LVN's, RN's or graduate nurses. In doing so, our goal is to give impetus to hard-working health care workers who have the desire, but not the financial resources, to earn a professional degree that will enable them to serve patients, advance their careers and improve the health care system in our community.
